There are a number of common text ad errors that occur 'often'. Before you can activate an ad generator, we must add your Google Ads ID to our MCC account. Before we do this, we perform a check based on these text ad errors. Below is a list of these errors:
- Inviting multiple account IDs
- Account linked to the maximum of managers
- Setting up the ad generator only halfway
- Creating Ad groups, ads and the information in the ads on different levels
- Unusual or no targeting
- Error riddled preview phase
- Incorrectly using ad customizers
1. Inviting multiple account IDs
When you ask us to invite a list of account IDs or connections that are not created in Channable yet, we cannot send an invite. An example would be if you send us a list of a NL, DE, FR and UK account IDs, while you only have the NL connection ready yet. We want to make sure that what you push makes sense, because some settings cannot be changed anymore after pushing live.
Solution: first set up the connection and build the ad templates before receiving the invitation to our MCC-account.
2. Account linked to the maximum of managers
This error means that your account has been linked to the maximum number of managers and therefore Channable cannot be linked.
Solution: unlink one of the managers of your account by following the instructions on this article: https://support.google.com/google-ads/answer/7456531?hl=en
3. Setting up the ad generator only halfway
This error means that either you have not set the Text Ads configuration, you have not built ad templates or did not place keywords. This actually comes down to the same thing as error 1. We want to make sure that what you push makes sense, because some settings cannot be changed anymore after pushing live.
Note: don't forget to change the default values
title in the campaigns/ad groups steps to a desired static value or dynamic field.
Solution: set the Text Ads configuration, build the ad templates and place keywords before receiving the invitation to our MCC-account.
4. Creating Ad groups, ads and the information in the ads on different levels
This implies you create ad groups on brand or category level but use for example the regular link field for the final URL. It's important to check if the fields used in the ad templates and keywords match with the ad group level. So, let's say the ad group is set on brand level, then you cannot use the link field in the final URL because you don’t want to land on a specific product page. You want to land on a brand overview page. It's the same for keywords, you only want to use fields corresponding to the ad group level. In short, only use fields that are on the same level as the ad group.
Note: don't use link, title or any other item specific fields when your ad group is broader than the item level.
5. Unusual or no targeting
This error means that you have either not set the targeting or have set unusual targeting. For example you set "Afghanistan" as a country and "Arabic" as a language, because these are the first ones in the list. This targeting cannot be changed anymore after pushing live, so make sure you set it up correctly.
6. Error riddled preview phase
In this case, there are a lot of errors in the preview phase. You can filter on errors to see your mistakes.
7. Incorrectly using ad customizers
This means that all your main templates have an Ad customizer. The Google/Microsoft advertising policy specifies that there should at least be one main template without an ad customizer. More information about ad customizers can be found here.
